Eva’s first pony ride

We are at Crieff Hydro and they have an onside riding centre. Eva went riding for the first time. On her own. Well she didn't need mummy or daddy to go round with her. I think we can say she enjoyed it!

Scotland’s secret bunker an unplanned stop.

We needed lunch on the way to Crief our next stop. One random road sign and an hour detour here we are at Scotlands secret bunker for lunch. The cafe there is the original one in the bunker. Still with its 1950's feeling. But with wifi. Eva enjoyed her underground lunch. Then it was time to check out some of the bunker rooms. Most were as they where during different times in it history. From one of the rotor radar stations to being the bunker for the Scottish local government back during the Cold War. We enjoyed our visit and will be back in the future.

Novotel Edinburgh park

The pool was one of the best parts of the hotel for us. They catered for families well, with a kids menu and kids area. We would stay again with a good travel connections. https://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-6515-novotel-edinburgh-park/index.shtml

Edinburgh

We had a good drive to Edinburgh and arrived at the hotel early. Found the hotel was right next to the tram stop, so parked at the hotel used the facilities, and off for Eva's first tram ride. £8.50 for an all day family ticket, and 20mins later, we were in the heart of Edinburgh heading up to the castle. It was lunchtime and with a little one you have to stop. Found a nice cafe in the Edinburgh Festival Centre. Cheap for being so close to the castle and changing facilities in the gents and ladies. Try the fruit smoothies. We headed up to the castle were Eva went free due to being under 4. It's the best place to view the city from. I will say Eva did enjoy it but it's not really for the under 2s Back down to catch the tram back so we could get a swim in at the hotel before dinner....

Premier inn Dunfrice

Ours first premier inn with the little one. Good stay. Booked the evening meal deal when we booked back in September so we did not need to worry about the bill. Eva liked the kids chicken curry. Breakfast was a great selection all buffet service so great for Eva who likes a bit of everything, The room had a cot ready for Eva, with a blanket too if she got cold in the night. Wifi was a bit pants. We paid the extra for the ultimate wifi but it kept dropping out on 5ghz but was ok on 2.4ghz. My tablet auto chose the 5ghz all the time, not ideal when your being quite with the little one in the same room sleeping. Onto Edinburgh today

Thank you Tebay services

Tummies filled with healthy motorway services food and we are ready for the road again, Eva had a good play on their soft play after her dinner. The family wash rooms are great. Full size and little person flushing toilets, and sinks. Eva's only complaint she did not like the hand dryer.

Scotland bound

On our way to our first stop on our trip up to Scotland. Crawling in traffic outside Lancaster on the M6. Dumfries here we come. Just a one night stop but our first hotel stay with the little one. We wanted to break the journey up for her. Stuck in a slow traffic and she's happy for now. Snacks given to keep her going till lunch. Hoping to make it to Tebay services for lunch, and to grab some beer in their farm shop. Stocking up due to the Scottish minimum alcohol pricing.

YHA York Hostel – Hosteling with a young family experiance

Hostels have changed a lot over the last 10 years. They are no longer just for back packers wanting a cheap bed for the night while they travel around. The YHA Hostels are great for families on a budget. Large clean rooms with either shared bath rooms or en-suite which don't cost the earth. The YHA have some great city centre locations. This is one of the reasons we picked the York one; 25 mins walk to the centre.  The other main reason the price. Family rooms from £25 per night. That's the full room not per person! Why hostel over a hotel? Price - Hostel is much cheaper than a hotel or B&B Facilities - Access to a kitchen is a must when your on a budget, so you can make your own meals. YHA York has a shared kitchen and bar food, if we feel lazy. Hostels usually have
